When establishing an Instagram account to share my love of Disney, I agonized over the handle probably more than most. I came up with a variety of options but the one that stuck was Main Street Meandering.
Although generally simple, the meaning behind the name transcends a little deeper. In order to get to know me a little better I thought it might be interesting to let you into my thought process of how I settled on the name.
In any Disney castle park there is the Main Street area so this might seem obvious to someone who has ever been.
Main Street is quintessentially nostalgic for me. After you walk under the train station at Magic Kingdom and turn the corner around the circle in Town Square, there’s no feeling like getting that first view of the Castle down Main Street with Mickey Balloons floating in the air. The smells, the sounds, the excitement.
Even today, it still gives me the same goosebumps I did when I was a child going to Disney with my parents and for that reason it will forever be my favorite “land” in Magic Kingdom. Especially visiting with my children, it takes everything inside me not to burst out in happy tears on those first steps down Main Street.
Outside of Disney, every major city has a “main street” whether it be Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, or the Champs Elysees in Paris. That main street is iconic in one way or another.
In my pre-kid life, international travel made up a lot of my identity. In 2018, I gained status on United for all the miles I had flown for pleasure travel alone. It was something I truly enjoyed and hope for more opportunities to experience again someday.
For now the only countries I’m visiting are the ones at Epcot. If and when I ever get the chance to experience the main streets of another country again, I hope that it would naturally fit into the things I share here.
Meandering (v.) means to move about from place to place aimlessly.
I think it is so easy to get caught up in the trying to do everything mentality on a Disney trip. But sometimes there’s nothing better than just taking the time to walk through the shops on Main Street and hang around people watching with no plan.
Some of my favorite core memories on a Disney trip take place in the little moments. For example waiting for the fireworks to begin. Watching the parades on Main Street. The times we are aimlessly wandering, rather than rushing from ride to ride.
It is within the meandering the true magic happens on a Disney trip.
During international travel, meandering led to the discoveries of the hole in the wall bars. The meeting of interesting people you’d otherwise not have an opportunity to converse with. An overall better appreciation for the city visited.
Meandering can also be defined as to speak or write in sustained fashion on a number of loosely connected topics.
A blog is essentially just that. Although, when choosing the name I didn’t have a blog in mind. The original intention was just to be my best tips and tricks in Instagram caption form. But as I share more it makes more sense I find a place to better catalogue the information I share. Especially in a place easier to search.
I hope to share a bit more about our trips in a way Instagram has been unable to fill the void.
Main Street + Meandering is a way to summarize my favorite parts of a Disney trip and a friendly reminder to take it slow to take in the sights and sounds of The Most Magical Place on Earth.
I think it encapsulate my love of Disney without being overtly Disney related. And if ever a time Disney is no longer a focal point of mine, I believe it can still translate to other areas of interest.
Thanks for following along.
